Residence-hall registration numbers: Computers, gaming devices, handhelds

At the beginning of Fall 2009, K-Staters in the residence halls and Jardine Apartments registered their personal computers, gaming devices, or wireless handheld devices to the K-State wired and wireless networks. The registration process allows residents to verify that their operating system is valid and that the K-State antivirus software is up-to-date with the latest security updates and patches. Overall, this registration helps to secure the residence-hall network against mass virus outbreaks and other security threats that directly impact academic and social computing.

The registration numbers based on specific computer platforms are as follows: Continue reading “Residence-hall registration numbers: Computers, gaming devices, handhelds”

Network security registration required for Residential Network

K-Staters in the residence halls and Jardine Apartments who are bringing a computer, gaming device, or wireless handheld device to K-State are required to complete K-State’s network-access process before their computing device will be permitted on the network. This includes access to both Ethernet and wireless connections. The Bradford system has been reset for this semester; all new and returning residents must complete the process, even if they registered in the fall. The re-registration process allows residents the chance to check and make sure that their operating system and antivirus software is up-to-date since leaving last December. Operation PC Aug. 21-24 for residence halls

From Aug. 21-24, K-State IT staff will be working with the 5,300 students moving into the residence halls and Jardine Apartments, to prepare their computers for accessing the network. Students must:

  • Update their computers with the latest operating system patches
  • Install the managed version of K-State’s antivirus software
  • Set an appropriate administrator password
  • Verify their computer’s operating system license
  • Install necessary operating system updates
  • Install the Kansas State University antivirus solution
  • Install the Client Security Agent (CSA)
  • Verify their successful registration to the campus network

Once these steps are completed, students register their computer to sign on to the campus network. To date, more than 1,600 students moving into the residence halls have completed the process remotely, which is available from www.k-state.edu/infotech/networks/access.
