Dell Product Roadmap open sessions Thursday, Dec. 16

Dell Product Roadmap presentations are scheduled 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, in Room 207 of the K-State Student Union. Dell representatives will share exciting new opportunities, partnerships, and enhancements to Dell product and services that have been unveiled in the last few months.

These sessions are open to the K-State campus community. The agenda:

1- 2 p.m. Dell Client Product Roadmap — Aron Singletary, Dell client technologist

2-3 p.m. Dell Networking and Enterprise Data Management — Daryl Proctor, Dell enterprise technologist-networking

3-4 p.m. Dell Server and Storage Product Roadmap — Mike Groft, Dell senior systems consultant

Jeff Cannon, Dell account executive, will also be on hand to assist and answer questions.

Departments: Microsoft-K-State software contract runs to 2012

The Microsoft Select Agreement between Microsoft and Kansas State University has been completed. It runs for three years, and will expire June 30, 2012. There are no changes to the agreement that expired June 30 — department orders are still placed through SHI International, pricing should remain the same, etc.

While the contract was being completed, SHI was unable to fulfill department orders for Microsoft products. They are now filling those pending orders.

Status of state contract for Microsoft products

The Microsoft Select Agreement expired June 30. Negotiations are under way, and the contract should be completed in the next few weeks. SHI, the Large Account Reseller for State Contract 07359, will continue as the vendor for Microsoft products.

Microsoft orders placed with SHI will be held until the new contract is in place. Questions may be directed to Kathy Leonard, IT licensing specialist (kantink@k-state.edu, 785-532-4926).

Reduce ink-printing costs with Ecofont

K-Staters looking for a way to reduce printing costs might want to consider using Ecofont. This font style, created by the Dutch company Spranq, was designed to use less ink than other fonts — about 15 percent to 20 percent less — by placing small holes throughout the typeface.

K-State computer recommendations for 2009

The new Adobe CS4 products, on the Student Select plan, recently arrived at the K-State Student Union Computer Store and are now available for purchase.  Adobe claims a savings of up to 80% off retail prices.

Parallels Student Select now available at the Union Computer Store

Parallels Desktop for Mac, an OS Virtualization software, is now available on the Student Select Program at the K-State Student Union Computer Store for $39.95. Regular retail is $79.95.

This software allows you to run a variety of operating systems on your Mac without rebooting. 

Guest Operating Systems supported Guest operating systems not included with Parallels Desktop. 

Microsoft Windows – Vista, XP, 2003, 2000, NT, 98, 95, 3.11 and 3.1

Adobe announces CS4

On September 23, 2008 Adobe announced the upcoming release of Creative Suite 4 (CS4) family of products, which is exptected to begin shipping at the end of October.

Among the products available will be Design Standard CS4, Design Premium CS4, Web Standard CS4, Web Premium CS4, Production Premium CS4, and Master Collection CS4, as well as a number of individual titles.
