Zoom: Maintaining your privacy while sharing your screen

As you continue to learn, teach, or work from home, you may need to share your computer screen with other Zoom meeting participants. Before you click the Share Screen button, protect your privacy by making sure you know exactly what you are sharing.

When you click on the Share Screen button at the bottom of the Zoom window, you can choose to share your full desktop or a specific window or application you have open on your computer. The best practice is to share only that specific window or application.

If you choose to share your full desktop, keep in mind that everything on your desktop will be showing, including:

  • Bookmarks or favorites in your browser window
  • Minimized windows
  • Files saved to your desktop
  • Desktop photos
  • Open programs or applications

To avoid overexposing your life, make sure you close any windows or files you do not want others to see before sharing your desktop.
