CrashPlan, an alternative to traditional computer backups, is available by subscription for faculty and staff. CrashPlan will back up files on your workstation, laptop or desktop computer in a continuous, invisible, uninterrupted manner, and send you a periodic report of the status of your backup. CrashPlan encrypts your data, and then backs the data up to the cloud.
All of your files, and every version of them, can be backed up to CrashPlan, protecting you from accidental file deletions, virus attacks, and hardware failures. In addition, you can restore any file to a past version using the simple self-service restoration web interface or a desktop client. User-configurable reports are also sent to you, and optionally to your systems administrator, to ensure that potential problems can be handled before they become disasters.
CrashPlan licenses are available for purchase by departments for faculty and staff. Each user license allows a maximum of 4 devices to be backed up. The annual fee is $72, covering the period from August 1 – July 31.
Purchase your license now, and receive free usage during summer 2017. The cost of your license will still be $72, and will not expire until July 31, 2018.
For those who purchase a license after September 2017, the cost will be prorated for the number of months in use.
To apply for a license, submit a completed CrashPlan license request form. An invoice will be issued upon receipt of the completed request form. Once payment is received, you will receive an email with instructions on how to access CrashPlan.
