July 1: Intro to Adobe Photoshop


Are you a graduate student who uses digital imagery (photos, data visualizations, and others) in a master’s thesis, master’s report, or doctoral dissertation (in an ETDR application)? Are you a faculty or staff member who integrates photographs or digital diagrams into slideshows, an imageset, an animation, or videos?

Join this “Intro to Adobe Photoshop” on July 1, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. on Zoom. This session introduces Adobe Photoshop as the leading software for editing and creating raster images (although it can output vector ones, too). This session will introduce the general graphical user interface (GUI) for this software. Then, it covers some basic uses and shows some walk-throughs of work sequences.

June 24: Intro to Adobe Animate

Adobe Animate 2022 is a popular animation tool for creating motion from still digital visuals and drawings and text.  As a part of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, its interface shares many characteristics with other tools in the collection.  This session is the first of its kind offered at K-State.  The session is scheduled for June 24 (Friday) from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. via Zoom. Feb. 25: Intro to Adobe Illustrator 2022

“Intro to Adobe Illustrator” is scheduled 1;30-3:30 p.m. Feb. 25 (Fri.)  on Zoom. This session introduces Adobe Illustrator as the leading software for editing and creating scalable vector images (graphics).

This session will introduce the general graphical user interface (GUI) for this software. Then, it covers some basic uses and shows some walk-throughs of work sequences.

Adobe Comp removed from App Stores on Feb. 15

On Feb. 15, Adobe will remove Adobe Comp, a free mobile app for creating basic page mockups, from the iOS and Android app stores. Existing users can continue to use the app, but out of an abundance of caution, we recommend all users backup artwork and data created with Adobe Comp now to a secondary location or send files to Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or InDesign by selecting that option in the Adobe Comp app. Adobe will continue to officially support the Adobe Comp app through Apr. 29.If you are an Adobe Comp user looking for alternative apps, you may want to try the new Adobe Creative Cloud Express or Illustrator on the iPad.For additional details, view the Adobe Comp end of support FAQ.

Aug. 30: Getting Started with ETDR Templates

""Are you a master’s or doctoral student? If so, it is likely that you will be conducting research as part of your studies. At some point, you may be writing a thesis, report, or dissertation to record your work to share with the profession and the world. K-State has made available templates (in Microsoft Word and LaTeX) for students to use, in order to ensure that they include all required information in the proper formatting.

“Getting Started with ETDR Templates” is an online training on Zoom from 1-2:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 30.

The visuals used include those downloaded and screenshotted from the WWW and Internet (and effective ways to capture these); however, visuals should be original for academic work and publication.  Are you a graduate student who uses digital imagery (photos, data visualizations, and others) in a master’s thesis, master’s report, or doctoral dissertation (in an ETDR application)? Are you a faculty or staff member who integrates photographs into slideshows, imageset, or videos?

April 23: Intro to Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign is the premiere layout tool for various electronic and print publications, designs, artifacts, interactive PDFs, forms, and other contents. This session introduces how to get started with InDesign (part of the Adobe Creative Cloud) by setting up workspace, beginning a publication, placing text and imagery, and exporting a file in the proper format.

InDesign also has a cloud-based aspect for publishing to the Web (and file-sharing for feedback).

Adobe Flash Player end-of-life Dec. 31

In July of 2017, Adobe announced that it would stop distributing and updating Flash Player after December 31, 2020. Adobe decided to end support for Flash Player due to the diminished usage of the technology.

Instructors who have Flash-based content in their courses will want to convert the content to a more secure option such as HTML5. With the demise of the Flash Player, students will no longer be able to view your Flash-based content safely.
