Xmarks, a bookmark synchronizer for web browsers

Anyone using multiple computers throughout the day knows how frustrating it can be to have different bookmarks on each machine. The browser add-on Xmarks (formerly known as Foxmarks) allows users to synchronize all of their bookmarks among various computers.  The bookmarks are then readily available whenever and wherever needed. It also synchronizes across different browsers.

Simply install the Xmarks add-on and create a username and password. The bookmarks are then uploaded and stored on a server. If you set up a new machine, just install the Xmarks add-on and download the bookmarks. This replaces the prior bookmarks and merges with current ones. You can even create different profiles for work-related or home computers. Once all of your bookmarks are set up, you can then view and edit them at my.xmarks.com and the changes will synchronize with any browser that currently has the add-on installed.

February IT training calendar online

eTips: iSIS grading Dec. 2; Wikis in the workplace Dec. 4

Sarah Silva will present an eTips session on “iSIS Grading” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, desktop webinar via Wimba. Join this session to learn how to enter and approve final grades in iSIS. It will also cover how to copy grades from K-State Online to iSIS.

Dave Bollman will present an eTips session on “Wikis in the Workplace” at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, desktop webinar via Wimba. Join this session to learn how a wiki can be used to document procedures in the workplace.

eTips registration is required at least 24 hours in advance to allow time to add you to the session and ensure your workstation is configured properly for accessing the session.

eTips Sept. 29: Using PowerPoint with Accessibility in Mind

Jason Maseberg-Tomlinson will present an eTips session on “Using PowerPoint with Accessibility in Mind” at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, desktop webinar via Wimba. This session will cover creating accessible PowerPoint slides with text, graphics, and video. This session will also discuss some common mistakes that make PowerPoint inaccessible. Ultimately, you will learn how to make an accessible PowerPoint that can withstand the test of time and still effectively communicate to all students.

eTips Sept. 10: Getting started with Excel

Cathy Rodriguez will present an eTips session on “Getting started with Excel 2007” at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, desktop webinar via Wimba. This session will demonstrate the basics in getting started with Excel such as getting familiar with the ribbon, creating a workbook, entering and editing data, adding rows and columns, and entering simple formulas.

eTips registration is required at least 24 hours in advance to allow time to add you to the session and ensure your workstation is configured properly for accessing the session.
