Reminder: Visual literacy presentation Thursday, April 22

The last Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) Roundtable of the semester is 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in Room 212 of the K-State Student Union. This presentation is open to all K-Staters, and should have particular interest for faculty and visual-spatial learners. Ben Ward, instructional designer with iTAC, will provide “an image-packed journey into the world of visual literacy.”

This presentation covers:

  • Visual-spatial learners in the classroom
  • How to improve visual impact of lectures and presentations
  • New software for creating visual aids
  • Addressing the visual as narrative

K-Staters are invited to bring their lunch to this mid-day session, where coffee, tea, and water will be available. RSVP to catl@k-state.edu, 785-532-7828.

CHECK conference agenda posted for May 26-27

Fort Hays State University is hosting the Conference on Higher Education Computing in Kansas (CHECK) Wednesday-Thursday, May 26-27, in Hays. Online registration is available at www.check.gen.ks.us, where you can also find the conference agenda, presentation abstracts, lodging, and additional conference information.

This year’s registration fee is $35 and covers two meals, continental breakfast, refreshments, and all conference items. The early registration deadline is May 12.

April IT training calendar online

iTAC’s April IT training calendar is now online. All classes are free for K-State faculty, staff, and graduate students, but require pre-registration. Details and prerequisites can be found on the registration page. Upcoming courses include:

  • Introduction to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
  • Working with CSS in Dreamweaver

IT Orientation session March 10: Emerging Technologies

Emerging Technologies, the last IT Orientation session for the Spring 2010 semester, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, in 401B Hale Library. Learn more about a variety of emerging technologies that can help in the classroom, office, and at home. The session is open to all K-State faculty, staff, and students but requires pre-registration.

Microsoft Office online training available, and more

Self-paced Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 (PCs) and Office 2004 and 2008 (Macs) courses are available online for all K-State faculty and staff. Also offered are courses on IT Security and Business Communications, as well as online technical references on a wide variety of topics. The tutorials are free, but registration for online tutorials is required for access.

IT Orientation session March 4: Library Technology

At the March 4 IT Orientation session, learn more about library technology at K-State. The one-hour session will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 4, in 401B Hale Library. It is open to all K-State faculty, staff, and students but requires pre-registration.

After this session, there will be one last session this spring on Emerging Technologies at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 10 in 401B Hale Library.

TechBytes Feb. 11: Yolink Search

Brian Cheek from TigerLogic Corp. will present “Yolink Search” at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, in 501 Hale Library. Yolink is a web browser add-on that enhances searching capabilities. Join us to learn about some of the  features such as:

  • Scanning search-engine results
  • Searching e-books, PDFs, online manuals, and more
  • Searching embedded links
  • Saving  search results in Google Docs and Spreadsheets
  • Posting results to social bookmarking sites

IT Orientation session Feb. 17: IT Training

Everybody needs a little help every now and then! Join us at the next IT Orientation session and learn about the training opportunities currently being offered at K-State. On Jan. 28, join the IT Security team as they discuss what you can do to increase your computer security on campus.
