IT Update

In July, sparks are flying to prepare for an earlier start to the school year. Some of the many projects either completed or in the works follow.

Networking and Telecommunications Services (NTS) continues to improve the IT infrastructure. Projects include:

  • Collaborating with design teams for Hale Library, Snyder Family Stadium, the Multicultural Center and McCain Auditorium
  • Continuing renovation and wiring projects in Mosier, Derby, Weber, Leasure and Call Hall
  • Preparing for AV upgrades for Olathe and centrally supported classrooms
  • Planning for the WSU Nursing program in Justin
  • Working with Riley County Emergency Management to upgrade the campus 911 system

Prior to COVID-19, Facilities and the Academic Student and Technology staff were updating five centrally scheduled classrooms (Cardwell 101, Cardwell 144/145, Dickens 207, Durland 1073,  and Justin 109). More upgrades are in the works to make the centrally scheduled and department teaching spaces web conferencing ready by the start of fall semester.

Staff in conjunction with K-State Libraries reopened the second floor of Hale July 1. The Library and IT Help Desks and about 30 computers and three printers are available. Guidelines are in place for cleaning and social distancing.

The temporary free Adobe license for students expired on July 6. For students who need continued access (through noon, August 14. 2020), their instructor or unit’s SysAdmin can send the student’s name, eID, and course name to itsbusiness@ksu.edu who will complete the paperwork for an extension.

Phishing scams persist, which heightens the need for K-Staters to remain vigilant. Find the most recent scams on the Scams blog. The AnyConnect VPN was retired on June 30. K-Staters should now be using the Global Protect VPN.

By September 27, Zoom meetings will require a passcode or the waiting room enabled. Read more about the requirements here.

The ImageNow upgrade project kicked off in May. For more information, see the ImageNow blog.

HRIS, KSIS, and DARS will be unavailable from midnight – 4 a.m., Sunday, July 12. Information Technology will be performing maintenance on the Oracle PeopleSoft systems. This maintenance is to keep the system secure and enhance system performance. DARS database upgrade is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 18.

The eID password reset will undergo maintenance from 3 – 7 p.m. on July 14. During the maintenance period, you will be unable to reset your eID password via the text messaging option. K-Stater’s can still use the email option to reset their eID password during the maintenance.

Since April 8, 29,328 unique users have changed their password using the new standards and 4,502 individuals have created eIDs. There are almost 33,000 accounts who will receive a password change notification between now and October.
