Election apps for before and after voting

As Americans head out to vote on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 6) for national, state, and local candidates, questions may still abound.  Aside from the ever-important “Who’s winning?”, inquiries range from where to vote, when the election polls open, who’s on the ballot, and even whether people are really registered to vote.

New ad-privacy control in iOS 6; how to limit ad tracking

With the introduction of iOS 6 by Apple, Apple has changed the way that application developers and advertisers within apps are able to target ads and track usage. Previously, Apple allowed developers access to a hardware-based ID number to allow such tracking ability, but they have moved to a software-based system in iOS.

Air Sketch app on iPad provides “somewhat wireless” use in technology classroom

An application that faculty may be interested in is Air Sketch.  The free version of Air Sketch provides a somewhat-wireless whiteboard and marker function.  In addition, the $9.99 version that includes the whiteboard also allows annotation on JPGs and PDFs in multiple colors.  The Marker utility can also switch from a traditional marker to a highlighter for use in annotations.

How does it work?  Air Sketch will generate a live, updating URL for the document being manipulated.  This URL can be viewed on any device with an HTML 5-compatible web browser.  Continue reading “Air Sketch app on iPad provides “somewhat wireless” use in technology classroom”

You can access it through any iOS device or on your computer by going to www.icloud.com.  This makes it simple and easy to find your device.  Continue reading “How “Find My iPhone” app can be helpful”

New YouTube App for iPhone and iPod touch launches today

With tomorrow’s anticipated launch of iOS 6, some may be surprised at the lack of a YouTube app. Apple’s contract with Google (owner of YouTube) expired earlier this year; it included provisions for hosting a pre-installed YouTube app on iOS. Starting with iOS 6, YouTube will not come as a pre-installed app.

In a preemptive move by Google, a new YouTube app is now available for iPhone and iPod touch in the iOS App Store. It is a free app that features an updated user interface and enhanced features. Continue reading “New YouTube App for iPhone and iPod touch launches today”

Cleaning out your Twitter feed

It is always a good idea to clean house once in a while, and this includes any social networks you may use. There may be stale or out-of-date information or posts that you would like to remove and, in some cases, clean out the whole thing and start over.

In the Twitter world, more and more tools are becoming available to help you manage your Twitter feeds and clean out old posts or completely delete everything that the public can see. One tool is an iOS app called DLTTR Continue reading “Cleaning out your Twitter feed”
