New K-State Mobile app released

 

A new K-State Mobile app is available for download from the App Store or K-State Mobile appPlay Store. The app is designed to help manage life at K-State and connect to the campus scene. Features include on-the-go people and departmental directories, transportation information, interactive map, K-State Connect and more.

Users can select from four personas at the bottom of the app: Student, Future Student, Faculty/Staff or Family & Friends with varying content for each group.

The app will continue to evolve over the next several months with plans to mobilize some KSIS features, K-State Online, dining center hours and menus, parking garage availability and more. Plans for the app also include specific content for the Olathe and Polytechnic campuses. Please send suggestions for content and features to mobile@ksu.edu.

Exploring social media with NodeXL Basic training April 15

“Exploring Social Media with NodeXL Basic” is a two-hour session that introduces some of the social media data extraction and network graphing functionalities of an open-source and freeware tool NodeXL Basic. This event will be 1:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, April 15, in 401B Hale Library.

  • Ever wonder what sorts of #hashtagged conversations may be occurring on Twitter and who the discussants are? Curious about the social networks of particular @accounts on Twitter?

  • Intrigued by a related tags network from Flickr? An article network on Wikipedia? A video network on YouTube? A user network on YouTube?

Office 365: Web apps, OneDrive, and ProPlus coming this week

Today, the new features of Microsoft Office 365 begin rolling out to K-State students and faculty/staff through their webmail accounts. The process will continue throughout the week, until all users have access to the OneDrive file-storage space and Office Online web apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote). If you do not see these features in your App Launcher by Monday, March 16, contact the IT Help Desk.

Qualtrics Offline Mobile App for iOS and Android devices

The Qualtrics Offline Mobile App (for iPad, iPhone, and Android tablets and smartphones running Android 4.0 and later) is a new application available for iOS and Android devices, allowing the administration of surveys without an Internet connection. Microsoft makes iOS Office apps free

The apps include mobile versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. To access the editing features, log into the apps with a Microsoft account (Live or Hotmail account), which can be freely created at www.live.com. Previously users would have needed an Office 365 subscription to edit within the iOS Office apps.
