“NVivo Basics” training Feb. 20

An “NVivo 10 Basics” training will be offered 1:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at 301 Hale Library for all faculty, graduate students, and staff who may be using this qualitative (and mixed methods) data analysis tool.

Real-time Tweet analysis with Maltego Carbon demo Jan. 23

At any one time, there are events trending on Twitter, with people acting as “sensor networks” by sharing near-field information.  Maltego Carbon 3.5.3 has a new feature, the Tweet Analyzer, which enables the capture of content (and ego) networks based around “seed” keywords, key phrases, and #hashtags.

“Using NVivo 10 to Tap Social Media Streams” scheduled for Nov. 21

“Using NVivo 10 to Tap Social Media Streams” will be offered 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in 301 Hale Library. This presentation will provide an overview of the NCapture plug-in to NVivo 10 as a tool for extracting information from social media platforms.  This will also explore how the extracted data may be analyzed using NVivo 10, a qualitative and mixed methods data analysis tool.

“NVivo 10 Advanced” training slated for Oct. 24

“NVivo 10 Advanced” is a follow-on presentation from the “NVivo 10 Basic” offered the prior month.  This training will be offered 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, in 301 Hale Library.

  • how to download and install NVivo 10 and input the license key
  • how to download NCapture
  • the basic parts of the NVivo 10 interface
  • how to start and structure a research project
  • how to ingest various multimedia file types
  • how to ingest some social media contents
  • how to begin coding various media file types
  • how to back up the .nvp project file

Beocat extends reign as largest academic supercomputer in Kansas

Beocat

The K-State research computing cluster Beocat is currently the largest academic research cluster in Kansas. Through recent contributions totaling more than $200,000 from faculty in agronomy, biology, chemical engineering and plant pathology, Beocat has grown to approximately 600TB of storage and ~2500 processor cores on machines ranging from dual-processor Opterons with 8GB RAM to six 80-core Xeons with 1TB RAM connected by 40Gbps QDR Infiniband.  Continue reading “Beocat extends reign as largest academic supercomputer in Kansas”

Graduate students, need help? April 25 deadline to submit theses, dissertations, and reports

Graduate students who plan to graduate this semester must submit their electronic theses, dissertations, or reports (ETDRs) to the K-State Research Exchange (K-REx) repository by 5 p.m. Friday, April 25. Grad students: Last ETDR overview is Thursday, April 3

The final overview of the semester for the Electronic Theses, Dissertations, and Reports program, or ETDR,  is 3-5 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Room 206 of the K-State Student Union. NVivo for Mac Beta available

QSR International, the makers of NVivo, recently released the NVivo for Mac (beta). To  learn more and download NVivo for Mac Beta, visit  the official site Those who participate in the beta-testing phase (March – May 2014) will be invited to provide feedback to QSR International about this qualitative and mixed methods data analysis software.
