Upgrade to the latest version of Zoom by Nov. 2

On Nov. 2, Zoom will require all users to upgrade to version 5.17.5 for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows. You can check your Zoom version in the desktop and mobile app and upgrade to the latest version as soon as possible.

Anyone trying to sign in or join a meeting/webinar using a version below 5.17.5 on or after Nov. 2 will be prompted to update Zoom to the current minimum version. If you are unable to update immediately, you can join through the web as an alternative.

Zoom has implemented a Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy which requires a new minimum version of the software every three months. This policy ensures that all users have the necessary privacy and security updates and access to the latest features.

Zoom minimum version requirement August 3

On August 3, Zoom will require version 5.16.6 for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows. Users can check their Zoom version directly in the desktop client and mobile app. If the version is below 5.16.6, please upgrade to the latest version of the Zoom client as soon as possible.

Zoom minimum version requirement May 4

On May 4, Zoom will require version 5.15.5 for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows. Users can check their Zoom version directly in the desktop client and mobile app. If the version is below 5.15.5, please upgrade to the latest version of the Zoom client as soon as possible.

Zoom desktop app will no longer support Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1

The Zoom desktop app will no longer be supporting Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 with the new 6.0.0 release. Version 5.17.11x will be the last version available for these operating systems.

Zoom is expected to stop working on Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 by February 2025. To avoid losing service, upgrade your device to Windows 10 or 11.

Zoom: New Meeting Join Flow coming May 20

On May 20, the new Meeting Join Flow feature will be enabled in Zoom. Meeting Join Flow streamlines the user experience of joining a meeting. Currently, you see up to three separate dialogue windows during the join flow: Please wait for the host to join, the video preview window, and the Waiting Room. Among these improvements, the functionality of the first “waiting for host” window is combined with the third Waiting Room window.

On May 6, Zoom will require versions 5.11.3 (iOS and Linux) and 5.11.4 (Windows, macOS, and Android). Division of IT welcomes you to the spring semester

The Division of Information Technology provides various resources and services for free. Get your semester off to a good start by checking out a few of them.

  • Get a free copy of Microsoft Office for personal use on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 phones. See the installation instructions for Mac, Windows, and mobile devices.
  • Use Microsoft 365 on the web – a collaboration suite that includes tools such as email, calendar, office applications, file storage space, Teams, and more. You can access the suite from your desktop, web browser, or phone.
  • Connect your mobile devices to K-State’s wireless network.
  • Get antivirus – K-Staters connecting their computers to the Kansas State University network can use the approved antivirus software of their choice or choose from the list of recommended software.
  • Use K-State’s Qualtrics survey system. Faculty/staff and authorized students can use the Qualtrics Survey System. Qualtrics is a comprehensive survey tool with more than 90 question types, simplified reporting tools, online training modules, a library of surveys to peruse, and more.
  • Use Zoom (video and audio conferencing) to meet virtually.
    Use Zoom to set up an online staff meeting, a training session, a class group meeting, beam in a speaker, and more. See the Using Zoom guide to get started.
  • Remote access to software – Remote access to software in the K-State computer labs allows students to use specialized software and avoid having to purchase themselves. Popular software includes SAS, SPSS, Mathematica, and Matlab. Unfortunately, Adobe Creative Cloud is not available for remote access.
