Today, July 15, is Shred Day for securely destroying paper documents

This morning, K-State departments can take their paper records to the following locations for secure shredding at the following times on the Manhattan and Salina campuses:

  • Manhattan campus: 8:30-10:30 a.m. outside the K-State Student Union, east side
  • Salina campus: 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Technology Center loading area, between the east/west wings

K-State Shred Day is July 15; document pickup on Manhattan campus for 10+ boxes

The Information Technology Assistance Center is hosting Shred Day 8:30-10:30 am. K-State Shred Day saved trees, improved information security

K-State’s annual Shred Day collection on Tuesday, Oct. 15, removed 7,820 pounds of paper from campus departments for secure disposal. Document Resources Inc. is the contract vendor for secure recycling. Papers are shredded into tiny particles, then compressed into large bricks before recycling.

“Document Resources estimates that we saved 68 trees today by recycling waste,” said Rebecca Gould, iTAC director and coordinator of the Shred Day event.  Continue reading “K-State Shred Day saved trees, improved information security”

Departments: Tuesday is Shred Day for secure disposal of papers

Documents to shred include scantron forms; greenbar grade sheets; rosters printed from K-State Online, iSIS, etc.; student papers with personal identity information and grades; data with credit card information; personnel files; other sensitive papers with identity or financial informationTuesday, Oct. 15, departments on the Manhattan and Salina campuses can drop off papers for free, secure disposal on K-State Shred Day.

On the Manhattan campus, drop-off is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at two locations: East of Dole Hall (north end of parking lot), and east of the K-State Student Union on Mid-Campus Drive. A completed Manhattan campus Shred Day form (PDF) is required.

2013 K-State Shred Day is Oct. 15 on Manhattan and Salina campuses

K-State is planning its annual Shred Day for university paper records. The event is scheduled:

  • 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, on the Manhattan campus (2 sites)
    — at Dole Hall, and east of the K-State Student Union on Mid-Campus Drive
  • 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Oct. 15, on the Salina campus
    — loading area between the east and west wings of the Technology Center. Departments that cannot bring their documents to the loading area can contact Information Systems, 785-826-2666.

Third annual Shred Day yields 3.8 tons of paper

The third annual Shred Day, Oct. 16 on the Manhattan and Salina campuses, was a success. Document Resources Inc. collected 7,620 pounds of paper products – about 3.8 tons – from 34 departments. Only one week left to collect paper for K-State Shred Day Oct. 16

K-State departments have about a week to finish collecting papers with sensitive data for free, secure shredding on K-State Shred Day, 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, on the Manhattan campus and 10 – noon on the Salina campuse.  This event is “paper only” — electronic media will not be collected, and wet or contaminated paper will not be accepted. See below for dropoff, prior pickup, and required forms for each campus.

The goal of this event each semester is to protect individuals and the university by securely disposing of documents with sensitive information — credit card data, personal identity details, personnel files, Scantron forms, grade sheets, class rosters, and so on.  Continue reading “Only one week left to collect paper for K-State Shred Day Oct. 16”

Shred Day a success Oct. 19; Salina campus next

On Tuesday, Oct. 19, more than five tons of paper was collected for shredding and recycling as part of the first annual “Shred Day” sponsored by Information Technology Services. Document Resources collected 10,800 pounds from 39 different departments and took the material to their secure facility to shred and then recycle.

K-State’s Salina campus is up next. Document Resources’ trucks will be there 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Nov. 2, to collect paper from the College of Technology and Aviation. Like the Manhattan campus, questions about records retention should be directed  to the university archivist, Tony Crawford (arcford@k-state.edu, 532-7466). Other questions about the Salina event, such as where to bring the paper, should be directed to Bill Chestnut (chestnut@k-state.edu, 785-826-2666).
