Digital Signage Open House scheduled Jan. 17, 2013

Information Technology Services will be hosting a Digital Signage Open House 10:30 a.m.-noon Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, in the Hale Library Hemisphere Room to  demonstrate K-State’s digital-sign software system available to K-State departments at no charge.

Apple recalls some 1-terabyte hard drives on iMacs

Apple has issued a recall on some 1-terabyte hard drives that were installed in iMacs between October 2009 and July 2011. New ad-privacy control in iOS 6; how to limit ad tracking

With the introduction of iOS 6 by Apple, Apple has changed the way that application developers and advertisers within apps are able to target ads and track usage. Previously, Apple allowed developers access to a hardware-based ID number to allow such tracking ability, but they have moved to a software-based system in iOS.

Traveling abroad with technology: Loaner netbook program, cellphone guide

The Information Technology Assistance Center (iTAC) has put together a couple of helpful information pages as well as an international loaner netbook program to help aid faculty/staff who travel internationally.

The international loaner netbook program provides a technology option that conforms to United States government export-control laws. These netbooks can be checked out in iTAC, 214 Hale Library. See more information about the program.

iTAC has also put together a handy guide with tips for using a cellphone or smartphone overseas.

Windows 8 Demo Day Wednesday September 19, 2012

Microsoft will be on campus Wednesday September 19th in the Union Big 12 room to demo the Windows 8 operating system. Major changes in Windows 8 include a completely new user interface and other enhancements aimed at tablet computing and desktops alike.

Microsoft will be providing three demo sessions geared for different interest areas. Here is the planned agenda for the day.

  • 9:30am – 10:30am will be a general look at the new user interface. This session is perfect for those that are interested in how Windows 8 will look and act as well some of the new features.
  • 11:00am – 12:00pm will be a technical session covering the inner workings of the operating system as well as support and management enhancements.
  • 12:15pm – 1:00pm will be a brown bag question and answer session for diving deeper into the inner workings of Windows 8.

All of the sessions will be held in the Union Big 12 room and anyone interested in one or all of the sessions is welcome to join.

New YouTube App for iPhone and iPod touch launches today

With tomorrow’s anticipated launch of iOS 6, some may be surprised at the lack of a YouTube app. Apple’s contract with Google (owner of YouTube) expired earlier this year; it included provisions for hosting a pre-installed YouTube app on iOS. Starting with iOS 6, YouTube will not come as a pre-installed app.

In a preemptive move by Google, a new YouTube app is now available for iPhone and iPod touch in the iOS App Store. It is a free app that features an updated user interface and enhanced features. Continue reading “New YouTube App for iPhone and iPod touch launches today”

Update wireless access on a Mac after eID password change

There have been several reports of Apple Macs having issues reconnecting to the KSU Wireless and KSU Housing networks after a user changes their eID password. The best way to resolve this issue is to select KSU Guest from the network list and run through the XpressConnect process again. This will reconnect them to either KSU Wireless or KSU Housing depending on their specific needs.
