ITS staff apologizes for the inconvenience.

Textbook reporting requirements

(Editor’s note:  This information is from an e-mail memo sent by the Office of the Provost.)

The Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 is designed to ensure that students have access to affordable textbooks and supplemental materials. According to the act, universities must make information about required textbook and supplemental materials available to students on their online course schedules by July 1.

To meet the requirement, K-State bookstores (K-State Student Union and Varney’s, Manhattan campus), Follett’s (Salina campus), and KVESS (College of Veterinary Medicine) are working with K-State to collect textbook and supplemental information and post it online.

Textbook information must be correct and only provided when faculty know the textbook they will use. In addition:

  • If there is no textbook for a course, this information must be provided to the bookstore.
  • If a faculty member does not yet know textbook information, the default statement “to be determined” will be listed, and the textbook information submitted as soon as the decision is made.
  • Faculty members who typically have worked through Claflin Books and Copies in Manhattan may continue to do so, but also need to complete the request for textbooks from the K-State Student Union Bookstore so the textbook information can be made available to students.

Employees: Get paycheck details via Employee Self Service starting Feb. 5

(Editor’s note: The Division of Human Resources provided information for this article.)

Beginning with the pay period ending Jan. 23 that will be paid Feb. 5, Employee Self Service will be the only way to view paycheck (aka “pay advice”) details. Employees will no longer receive a paper pay advice via U.S. Postal Service. Pay advice/paycheck details are normally available via K-State’s Employee Self Service a week prior to payday.

For the few employees who receive a paper paycheck, those will continue to be mailed as usual. For more information, contact your department’s personnel specialist or call Human Resources at 785-532-6277.

New “Ask Willie” website to help students

Ask Willie

In an effort to provide students an easy way to ask questions and voice concerns, K-State’s Office of Student Activities and Services has set up a new service called Ask Willie. According to a Dec. 9 press release from Media Relations, Ask Willie is a channel for students to go to for help with anything from university policies to personal issues. It consists of an e-mail address (askwillie@k-state.edu) and a website (www.k-state.edu/askwillie) with a form for students to use to request help or information. Where are the InfoTech Tuesday archives?

Q. Where did the old InfoTech Tuesday archive go?
A. While the newsletter has moved to a new platform, with a new way of archiving and viewing archives, the old archive is still available. The easiest way to get there is to click on the Archive tab in the new InfoTech Tuesday site and follow the link near the top of the page to the old archive. Alternatively, you can get there directly by going to http://www.k-state.edu/infotech/news/tuesday/archive .

InfoTech Tuesday overhaul

In an effort to enhance all aspects of InfoTech Tuesday, the iTAC Communications and Training group worked over the summer to bring a new vision to the IT newsletter. The new format, mimicking a blog layout, is a departure from a once-a-week static newsletter webpage towards an always on, always changing dynamic news environment.

In the new website, each article has its own page and its own discussion section where anyone can post comments or vote. Articles are both categorized and tagged and easily printed, e-mailed, and shared to social news and bookmarking sites. The new feature-rich format is tailored for interaction with polls, a tag cloud, lists of most voted for and most viewed articles, and multiple ways to view and share the news the way you want it. Not sure about the new look? Don’t worry, it’s still called InfoTech Tuesday and we’ll still be sending out a weekly e-mail newsletter lineup!

Before you leave, be sure to:

  • vote for an article
  • subscribe to the RSS feed
  • subscribe to the events and deadlines calendar
  • answer the poll question
  • sign up for the weekly e-mail newsletter (all faculty are automatically subscribed)
