K-State’s new eID password standards begin April 8

On Wednesday, April 8, K-State’s eID password standards are changing. With these updated standards, most K-Staters will need to change their passwords only one more time and no longer be required to change their eID password every 180 days.

What do I need to do?

When you get the password change reminder email, change your password using the new password standards. Keep the following in mind:

  • If you changed your password before April 8, you will receive a 180-day reminder email and will be required to change your password again. After that password change, you will not need to change your password again unless your password becomes compromised.
  • If you are required to change your password more often because of the job you perform, you will still need to follow those job-specific password guidelines.

Currently, K-Staters are required to change their eID password every 180 days. On Wednesday, April 8, K-State’s eID password standards are changing. With these updated standards, most K-Staters will need to change their passwords only one more time.

Right now, nothing. Before the change, you received an email every 180 days, reminding you to change your password. After April 8, the next time you get the reminder email, change your password using the new password standards. IT Help Desk returns to Hale

On March 16, the IT Help Desk will return to the second floor of Hale Library. The hours of operation will be:

  • Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • Friday, 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Saturday, 1- 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, 1-10 p.m.

The second floor of Hale will house 99 computers (87 Windows machines and 12 Macs) and 5 printers. The machines for processing scantron forms also will move to Hale.

A satellite IT Help Desk will be located on the first floor of the K-State Student Union with hours from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Some Information Technology Services will stay in the Union, including Equipment Checkout, the university telephone operators, Client Services, and Network Operations, until the remaining floors of Hale reopen.

Many thanks to the K-State Student Union staff for providing great space for the IT Help Desk over the last 20 months.

ServiceNow sessions on campus, March 4

Information Technology Services is hosting representatives from ServiceNow on March 4 in the Unger Complex. Opportunities to learn more about ServiceNow, including a general overview session and a more focused conversation session, are provided below.

  • 11-11:55 a.m. – General overview of IT Service Management (ITSM) in ServiceNow for those interested in incident management, problem management, and enhancements (work orders). Join the session if you want to learn more about:
    • Incident management, problem management, request management, and enhancement management.
    • Ticketing system and work orders.
    • Compare and contrast tools used currently for ticketing and work orders.
  • 1-1:55 p.m. – This session is a more focused conversation with Q&A regarding our current implementation of ServiceNow (including processes discussed earlier and form management, workflow management, dashboards, reports) and areas for improved use. Join the session, if you have:
    • Business processes that are manual or paper-based, which could be automated.
    • Processes that occur in multiple systems that could be combined.
    • A need to measure how long a process takes or track the progress of a process.
    • A need to improve efficiencies.
    • A need for history or record-keeping around your processes.

The location for both sessions is Unger Complex, 146G or join the Zoom session.

ServiceNow is a cloud-based workflow software application shared among some members of One IT and K-State functional offices to manage incidents, problems, request fulfillment, asset management, change management, projects, and much more. For more information visit the ServiceNow website.

April 15: Windows Software Update Service (WSUS) will push Creators Update 1709

Windows updateOn Thurs., Apr. 15, Windows Software Update Service (WSUS) will push Creators Update 1709 to all applicable Windows 10 computers connected to the central WSUS server. Once the install files are downloaded to the computer, the update will require Windows to restart. You have the option to restart immediately or postpone the restart to a later time. Once the computer is restarted, the update will begin installing and the computer will be unusable during the install. It is estimated the install will take about an hour to complete.

Grad students and advisers: ETDR walk-in help sessions April 15-19

The spring semester deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, April 19 for submitting ETDRs (electronic theses, dissertations, and reports) to the Graduate School.  All ETDRs must be submitted as PDFs through the K-REx repository system.  Graduate students can use the resources below to help finish by the deadline.

A. Walk-in ETDR help sessions are scheduled April 15-19: 

  • MON April 15, 3-5 p.m.
  • TUE  April 16, 6-8 p.m.
  • WED April 17, 10 a.m.-noon
  • THU  April 18, 6-8 p.m.
  • FRI   April 19, 1-5 p.m.

All sessions are in the Media Center in Seaton Hall, Room 1 (basement level). The center has Windows and Mac computers, scanners, Microsoft Office suite, and Acrobat Pro software.
