Enroll in Duo by Jan. 13 for your chance to win Apple AirPods

To keep your personal information safe, K-State offers Duo two-factor authentication to provide a second layer of security for your account by using a secondary device to verify your identity. Early Duo enrollment is now through Jan. 13. Students who enroll early will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of Apple AirPods.

During the early enrollment event, K-State will give away 20 pairs of Apple AirPods. To learn more about the incentive prizes, view K-State’s Duo website. The 20 winners will be drawn on Feb. 1, 2023.

On Feb. 15, 2023, mandatory Duo two-factor authentication enrollment will begin. All students will be required to use Duo when they sign into K-State’s tools and services, including webmail and KSIS. At this time, Canvas will not be included.

Students can enroll in Duo beginning on Nov. 7

During the spring semester of 2019, K-State faculty, staff, and some student employees began using Duo two-factor authentication as a second layer of security for the university’s online applications and systems.

Now K-State is offering Duo for all students! Early student enrollment is from Nov. 7 through Jan. 13. During the spring 2023 semester, Duo enrollment will be mandatory for all students.

To enroll in Duo, students must complete a short Qualtrics survey. After completing the survey, students will receive an enrollment email within three business days with details about how to enroll in Duo.

If you work directly with students, please encourage them to enroll in Duo. During early enrollment, students have the opportunity to win incentive prizes. Your login credentials are more valuable than ever and are increasingly easy to compromise. Over 90% of breaches today involve compromised usernames and passwords. Cybersecurity is a major concern in our technology-driven world, and K-State is compelled to be more vigilant. 

To keep your personal information safe, K-State offers Duo two-factor authentication to provide a second layer of security for your account by using a secondary device to verify your identity. This prevents anyone but you from accessing your account, even if they know your password. Many of you may already  use  two-factor authentication in your personal life for online banking or streaming services. 

In 2023, Duo two-factor authentication will be required for all students when they sign into K-State’s tools and services, including webmail and KSIS. At this time, Canvas will not be included. However, K-State wants you to be protected now, so we offer an early enrollment option with incentive prizes!

Zoom update required by Nov. 5

On Saturday, November 5, Zoom will implement its new Software Lifecycle Policy for all products and services. If you are running an end-of-life version after November 5, you will not be able to join meetings via the Zoom Client and will be prompted to update or join from the Web browser. Please note Zoom Room Controllers installed on UWP devices will not be included in this enforcement until May 2023.

What do I need to do?

You need to update to the latest version of Zoom. If you are unsure what version of Zoom you are using, view these step-by-step instructions on how to view your Zoom version.

To check for updates and to update your Zoom app for Windows, macOS, or Linux:

  1. First, open and sign in to the Zoom desktop app using the K-State SSO option.
  2. Click your profile picture in the upper right of the application, then select Check for Updates in the menu.

Welcome to fall semester!

Welcome to the fall semester!The Division of Information Technology provides a variety of resources and services for free. Get your semester off to a good start by checking out a few of them.

  • Get a free copy of Microsoft Office for personal use on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 phones. See the installation instructions for Mac, Windows, and mobile devices.
  • Use Office 365 on the web – an office collaboration suite that includes tools such as email, calendar, office applications, file storage space, and more. You can access the suite from your desktop, web browser, or phone.
  • Connect your mobile devices to K-State’s wireless network.
  • Get antivirus – K-Staters connecting their computers to the Kansas State University network can use the approved antivirus software of their choice or choose from the list of recommended software.
  • Use our Qualtrics survey system. Faculty/staff and authorized students can use the Qualtrics Survey System. Qualtrics is a comprehensive survey tool with more than 90 question types, simplified reporting tools, online training modules, a library of surveys to peruse, and more.
  • Use Zoom (video and audio conferencing) to meet virtually.
    Use Zoom to set up an online staff meeting, a training session, a class group meeting, beam in a speaker, and more. See the Using Zoom guide to get started.
  • Remote access to software – Remote access to software in the K-State computer labs allows students to use specialized software and avoid having to purchase themselves. Popular software includes SAS, SPSS, Mathematica, and Matlab. Unfortunately, Adobe Creative Cloud is not available for remote access. Zoom is shutting down aging Chromebook app in Aug.

The Zoom app for Chromebooks will be officially discontinued in August. In 2020, Google shared its plans to phase out Chrome apps on all devices.

If you want to continue to use Zoom on your Chromebook, you’ll have to use the new Zoom for Chrome PWA. This is an updated version of the original app with a similar user interface and works on Chrome OS. Continue reading “Zoom is shutting down aging Chromebook app in Aug.”

Time to upgrade your Zoom

On Saturday, August 6, Zoom will retire older versions of its app. You will need to upgrade if you use Zoom version 5.3.0 or below.

If you are unsure what version of Zoom you are using, view these step-by-step instructions on how to view your Zoom version.

To check for updates and to update your Zoom app for Windows, macOS, or Linux:

QLess is removing lines from the student experience

QLess is an appointment scheduling and queue management software platform currently available at K-State. QLess allows students to avoid crowds and save time by joining virtual lines for campus services and eliminates the need to stand in line while streamlining processes and improving the overall experience.
