Zoom update available

On April 27, an update to Zoom was released with enhanced video communications security. Beginning May 30, Zoom will be enabling GCM encryption across the Zoom platform to provide increased protection for meeting data.

The update can be installed from your desktop client or from the Zoom Downlaod Center. Follow the instructions below to install the update from your desktop client:

  1. Open Zoom and sign in.
  2. In the upper-right corner, click your profile.
  3. Click Check for Updates.
  4. On the Update Available window, click Update and then click Install. 
  5. Follow the installation instructions and click Close when finished.

Did you miss the Jan. 27 Tech Tips Live! about Zoom?

The first Tech Tips Live! session was Jan. 27 and delivered via Zoom webconferencing by Shelley Troyer, Information Technology Assistance Center. There were 43 participants in the session. This session covered Zoom topics that you might not be familiar with, such as co-hosting, breakout sessions, and running a webinar.

All Tech Tip Live! sessions are recorded and on the Tech Tips Live! website. A schedule of upcoming sessions is also on the website.

Tech Tips Live! Jan. 27: Getting the Most Out of Your Zoom Meetings

Shelley Troyer, iTAC, will present the first Tech Tips Live! 15-minute session on Getting the Most Out of Your Zoom Meetings, 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.

The session is designed to discuss features that you might not be familiar with such as: Tech Tips Live! Getting the most out of your Zoom Meetings

  • Co-hosting a meeting
  • Placing an attendee on hold
  • Locking a meeting
  • Spotlighting vs. pinning a video
  • Muting all attendees vs. muting attendees on entry
  • Using breakout rooms
  • Hosting webinars

Zoom New Feature: Breakout Sessions

Zoom has a new feature available called Breakout Sessions. Zoom meetings can be split into up to 50 sessions. They can be split automatically or manually, and you can switch between sessions at any time.Zoom now has break out sessions

Participants have full audio, video and screen share capabilities. Users must be running version 3.5.31149.1102 or higher to use this feature.
