Spire to lead “Take 5: Teaching Technologies that Work” panel at ITL conference March 4-5

K-State faculty are sampling a variety of technologies in their daily work.  They will be sharing some of their favorites in a “Take 5” session 2:30-3:30 p.m. March 4 at Union Forum Hall as part of the Innovations in Teaching and Learning conference.

Lynda D. Call for proposals: K-State Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference March 5

K-State’s new “Innovations in Teaching & Learning Conference” (ITL) is announcing  a call for proposals to showcase K-State faculty’s teaching, learning, and technology used in the classroom or distance course(s). The deadline for submissions is now extended to Jan. 22, 2013, and the proposal form is available on the InnovationsInTeachingAndLearning.org website. Possible topics include:

Accessibility, Assessment and Evaluation, Active learning, Blended learning, Cloud computing, Creative course design, Collaboration, Concept maps, Copyright, Digital Photography, Discovery learning, E-textbooks, Flipped classroom, Gaming, Google Analytics, HTML 5, iPad apps, Instructional video creation, Interaction, Lecture capturing, Lab classrooms, LMS, Mobile learning, Problem-based learning, Portfolios, Social media, Simulations, Software training, Student-centered learning, Teaching with the iPad, Technology classroom, Web2.0 tools, Wikis and Blogs

This conference is a merger of two K-State conferences from previous years: the Axio conference, and the Teaching, Learning, and Technology showcase. March 9 (today) registration deadline for 2012 technology showcase

Today, March 9, is the last day for K-State faculty/staff to register for the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Showcase 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. Come and join the event, and stay for a light lunch. Prize drawings will be held throughout the showcase.

Registration for the event is required. If you haven’t previously registered for an event through the Division of Continuing Education, you must create an account using your email address and setting a password (NOT your eID password).

What’s at the showcase

  1. 25+ faculty demonstrations of technology, tools, tips, and resources
  2. Three mini-presentations: developing mobile apps; music and technology in the classroom; and advancing public knowledge of traumatic brain injury
  3. Nine vendors with technology products and demos
  4. Free lunch
  5. Prize drawings for two 26″ LCD TVs, a Steelcase Node Chair, a Dell 22-inch widescreen monitor, printers, Adobe Creative Suite Software, a Kindle Touch, and more

Cora Cooper to talk music and technology at Teaching, Learning, and Technology Showcase

K-State’s free Teaching, Learning and Technology Showcase is 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. All faculty, staff, and administrators are welcome to attend. Pre-register at ksushowcase.wordpress.com/registration.

Cora Cooper, professor in the Department of Music, will be one of the main speakers at the technology showcase March 13.  She will present at 11:30 a.m.

What is the “Women in Music” course that you created for fully online delivery?

The course is a look at music, from medieval times to today, from the viewpoint of women’s contributions. In a traditional survey of western art music you’d get in an “Intro to Music” class, the composers would all be “DWEM’s”– dead white European males. In Women in Music, we focus on the women composers and performers of those periods, and then go on to look at women in world music, jazz, blues, country, rock and roll and popular music today.

The Teaching, Learning, and Technology Showcase for K-State faculty/staff, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom will include product demonstrations by Cytek, Steelcase, Office Works, Panasonic, Varney’s, Dell, and Adobe.

Prize drawings will be held throughout the showcase. Faculty/staff must be present to win. In addition, a Varney’s gift card will be given to the first 200 faculty/staff who enter the ballroom.

K-State faculty will share their teaching experiences and vendors will demonstrate their products at the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Showcase 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. Come and join the event, discuss over coffee, and stay for a light lunch. Prize drawings will be held throughout the showcase.

Registration for the event is required for planning purposes. If you haven’t previously registered for an event through the Division of Continuing Education, you need to create an account using your email address and setting a password. This should NOT be your eID password.

Teaching, Learning, and Technology Showcase set for Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Technology Showcase logoMark your calendars for the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Showcase 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. There will be faculty presentations, faculty demonstrations, and vendor exhibits.

The goals for the event are to:

  • Showcase exemplary teaching talent on campus
  • Inspire faculty to use technology in innovative ways
  • Share best practices with university colleagues
  • Interact with technology vendors

Presentations scheduled:

  • Using iPads or other Mobile Devices in Mathematics – Andy Bennett
  • Music and Technology in the Classroom – Cora Cooper
  • Advancing Public Knowledge of Traumatic Brain Injury: Creating Change in Kansas – Deb Sellers

Prize drawings from those vendors will be held throughout the showcase (see the schedule of drawings in this article). In addition, a Varney’s gift card will be given to the first 200 faculty/staff who enter the ballroom.
