Oct. 11: Intro to NVivo 12 Plus

NVIVOAn “Intro to NVivo 12 Plus” training is scheduled from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, in 306 Calvin Hall for all faculty, graduate students, and staff who may be using this qualitative (and mixed methods) data analysis tool.

This presentation, which covers NVivo 12 Plus basics, will address the following:

  • the basic parts of the NVivo 12 Plus interface
  • how to start and structure a research project (including a team project)
  • how to set up a project around a base language (Chinese/PRC, English/US, English/UK, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese/Brazil, and Spanish
  • how to ingest various multimedia file types (and curate heterogeneous and semi-structured digital data and digitized contents)
  • how to ingest some social media contents
  • how to begin manual and / or automated coding various media file types
  • how to run data queries in the tool and analyze resulting data visualizations (word clouds, word trees, matrices, geographical maps, bar charts, and others), and
  • how to back up the .nvp / .nvpx project file

Kansas State University is proud to announce a partnership with Gartner Campus Access, which allows students, faculty, and staff to benefit from Gartner’s vast library of research.

Students can gain exposure to real-life business case studies, trends, and expert opinions. Faculty can use the tool to plan courses that are relevant and innovative for business and IT, while leveraging expert opinions when drafting dissertations and research papers.

June 22: New Features in NVivo 12 Plus training

NVivo 12 Plus, the world’s leading qualitative data analytics software, has recently released a new version. A training session on the new features (Windows) will be offered 2-4 p.m., Fri., June 22, in Calvin 306. There will be time for plenty of questions–as needed. The room will be open from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

An RSVP is NOT required. All are welcome.

Participants are welcome to bring their own laptops and follow along if they wish.  Please note that the Windows and Mac versions of NVivo are somewhat different (although becoming more similar in functional capabilities over time).

This latest version features some new analytics tools, including one for qualitative cross-tab analysis. This software has a data exchange integration with IBM’s SPSS.  There are new data visualizations features as well.

Grad students and faculty: Final ETDR walk-in seminar Oct. 18

Graduate students who missed the September walk-in seminar on Electronic Theses, Dissertations, and Reports (ETDR) may want to attend the October session 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in 407 Hale Library. This is a come-and-go seminar, so students can stay for more tips and timesavers, or get their answers and leave.

ETDR walk-in help sessions provide faster thesis/dissertation help on formatting, Microsoft Word, LaTeX, and ETDR questions.  About 30 Windows computers are available in Hale 407.  Attendees can bring their laptops if they need specific help.
