Adobe Comp removed from App Stores on Feb. 15

On Feb. 15, Adobe will remove Adobe Comp, a free mobile app for creating basic page mockups, from the iOS and Android app stores. Existing users can continue to use the app, but out of an abundance of caution, we recommend all users backup artwork and data created with Adobe Comp now to a secondary location or send files to Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or InDesign by selecting that option in the Adobe Comp app. Adobe will continue to officially support the Adobe Comp app through Apr. 29.If you are an Adobe Comp user looking for alternative apps, you may want to try the new Adobe Creative Cloud Express or Illustrator on the iPad.For additional details, view the Adobe Comp end of support FAQ.

Adobe Creative Cloud available to students, faculty and staff

Adobe is making temporary at-home access to the Creative Cloud Suite available until May 31, 2020. View the Knowledge Base article provided by Adobe and adapted for K-State here.

For the majority of students, faculty, and staff, to access the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite from your computer or laptop, sign in here https://creativecloud.adobe.com with your K-State.edu email address.

For those individuals who have an existing named license, they continue to sign in as they have in the past using their @ksu.edu Adobe ID. This process will allow named license users to access their cloud files and saved settings.

Also, through May 31, 2020, Adobe is making web-based PDF tools available for free from Adobe.com.

Outlook on the Web (OWA) mobile apps to be retired on May 15

Microsoft is retiring Outlook on the Web (OWA) mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android on May 15, 2018. You should begin using the Outlook app for iOS and Android.

Mobile device requirements

  • Windows: Office Mobile applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook Mail, and Outlook Calendar) require Windows 10.
  • iOS: Office for iPad and iPhone requires iOS 10.0 or later. Office for iPad Pro requires iOS 10.0 or later.
    Android: Office for Android can be installed on tablets and phones that meet the following criteria: running Android KitKat 4.4 or later version and have an ARM-based or Intel x86 processor.
    Mobile browsers: Any mobile browser supported by Microsoft may be used.

K-State Olathe now part of the K-State Mobile app

Image of mobile appThe K-State Mobile app now includes K-State Olathe, and you can set the app location to the Olathe campus.

To change your app location, scroll to the bottom of the screen. Tap My Location and choose the Manhattan Campus, Polytechnic Campus, or K-State Olathe.

The K-State Mobile app connects students, faculty and staff with the resources they need, right at their fingertips:

  • Check your class schedule
  • Use an interactive map
  • Get assistance
  • Connect to campus activities

The K-State Mobile app is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Improvements made to the K-State Online Attendance App

The default setting in the K-State Online Attendance App was changed on Wednesday, Nov. 8. The default-setting change does not affect your previously logged course attendance. K-State Online Canvas comes with a built-in attendance app called Roll Call. However, many instructors found the app too complicated to use. In response, K-State has developed an alternative attendance app that was released at the beginning of 2017.

The K-State Attendance app has been overwhelmingly accepted and preferred by instructors. During spring 2017, only a couple of courses continued to use Roll Call attendance. Due to the lack of use of Roll Call, a decision has been to permanently retire the feature. Retiring Roll Call will help to declutter the course navigation, and eliminate any confusion of which app to use when taking attendance. Continue reading “K-State Attendance app” →

“Advanced Text Editing on the iPad: Microsoft Word vs. Apple Pages” is this month’s topic. We will do a comparison of the free Microsoft Word and Apple Pages apps. Some people prefer Word and its integration with K-State’s Office 365 suite, and others like Pages because of its integration with iCloud across their Apple devices. Which do you prefer? Come and help us compare the pros and cons of each app.

Among other things, we’ll look at:

  • Features and user interface
  • Creating and editing documents
  • Saving and storage of documents
  • Sharing and collaboration
  • Importing and exporting documents between the two apps

As always, you are welcome to bring your lunch.
