CryptoLocker malware spreading through campus, destroying data

CryptoLocker is in a category of malware called ransomware. Once it’s installed, it encrypts most of the files on your computer as well as any files stored on connected network volumes. The only way to recover the encrypted files is to pay a ransom to the criminals or restore from backups. Several instances of this malware have been reported on the K-State campus and some of them have encrypted shared network volumes, affecting entire departments and forcing administrators to perform large data restores.  Continue reading “CryptoLocker malware spreading through campus, destroying data”

K-State Mac users advised to hold off on updating to Mavericks operating system

The release of the next version of OS X for Macintosh computers, 10.9 Mavericks, is coming soon. The current version of Trend Micro OfficeScan used on campus has some incompatibilities with this new version of OS X. iPad user group has new web presence

Included is a link to download our first iPad Resource Guide iBook that we created for our faculty in the College of Education: iPad Settings and Essential Productivity Tips.

New: Student photos in iSIS

During the past year information technology services, the K-State ID Center, and office of the registrar developed new processes to enable student photos taken by the ID Center to be imported and displayed in iSIS.
