Email upgrade committee hosting calendar function demonstration

The email upgrade committee will have a demonstration of the calendar functions in Google Apps for Education and Microsoft 365 from 1:30-3 p.m. today in the Big 12 Room at the K-State Student Union.

Seth Galitzer, computing and information sciences, and David Williams, housing and dining services, will be presenting the calendar functions. To ensure adequate space, please RSVP and provide any questions that you would like to see addressed in the presentation to https://surveys.ksu.edu/TS?offeringId=202278.

Qualtrics webinars scheduled Friday, Nov. 16, and Monday, Nov. 19

What causes K-State email to be blocked by other email providers

The IT Help Desk continues to receive numerous calls about email blocking that has disrupted our ability to communicate with those who receive their mail via a Microsoft email provider (Hotmail, MSN, Live365) and other email service-providers. This issue impacts everyone who’s trying to send email to one of these addresses, plus everyone who sends email to any K-State address that forwards to a Microsoft email provider — including addresses on K-State mailing lists. “Microsoft Word tips, tools, and troubleshooting” sessions on Library Day Nov. 7

Web conferencing tools Vidyo and BlueJeans available for testing

Video Conferencing Services in iTAC has begun a pilot program for testing Vidyo and BlueJeans, which are both designed to make conferencing over the Web easy to use, secure, and reliable.

  1. The BlueJeans pilot will be available until mid-January 2013.
  2. The Vidyo pilot will be available until October 2013.

Both services will be free-of-charge to use during the pilot programs.

Improved searching on university directory

Finding an email address, phone number or office location for K-Staters just got easier because of improvements to the people directory, the online searchable database of K-State faculty, staff and students. You can search the people directory by entering a person’s name or eID in the K-State search box, which is in the top right corner of all K-State webpages.

The improved people directory takes into account middle names, initials and hyphenated last names when searching for a person. Another significant improvement is searching for a person using a nickname. Continue reading “Improved searching on university directory”

Email slowness and outage result of hardware failure

K-State’s email service provider, Merit, experienced a hardware failure Thursday, Sept 27. While many of the mail stores are back up, they will continue through this morning to restore the remaining data.
