K-State Online: Maintenance requires re-link to Zoom

Zoom maintenance was conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 16, to fix problems experienced by many users this semester when using Zoom videoconferencing through K-State Online. A fix was applied to the Zoom tool within K-State Online that will resolve this issue. Instructors will need to re-link Zoom in their courses.

The fix removed the current Zoom link that was in the  course navigation. Only the link was removed; no changes were made to any archived or scheduled sessions. Continue reading “K-State Online: Maintenance requires re-link to Zoom”

Grad students: Walk-in ETDR help available Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Friday, Aug. 14

The Graduate School’s deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, for summer graduate students to submit electronic theses, dissertations, and reports (ETDRs) to the K-REx digital repository.  During the deadline week, a computer lab has been reserved for students to walk in and get hands-on help from ETDR support staff on two days in 407 Hale Library:

  • 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12
  • 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14

CrashPlan PROe subscription available for campus departments

CrashPlan PROe, an alternative to traditional computer backups, is now available for subscription.  This K-State service quietly monitors your computer for changes in your files and backs them up to a secure, remote system using industry-leading 448-bit encryption. You can adjust what is backed up and can access those backups from anywhere using clients for most popular operating systems and mobile devices.

Campus printing just got easier in computing labs

Over spring break, Information Technology Services performed some needed improvements to the Pharos printing system used in computing labs across campus. New NVivo license key now available

Kansas State University’s new NVivo license key for this year is now available at NVivo 10 Software Download.  The license key is the same one for either NVivo 10 on Windows or Mac.  To access this key, a valid K-State eID and password are required.

Technology outage result of network traffic

At 4:34 a.m. Friday, K-State began experiencing intermittent problems connecting to various systems in the data center. Information Technology Services staff along with our vendor partner, Cisco, began investigating immediately. While most K-Staters continued to have email access, other systems such as K-State Online Classic and Canvas, the K-State Web pages and some administrative systems were unavailable.  Continue reading “Technology outage result of network traffic”

Zoom audio/video conferencing upgraded to work with Single Sign-On

The K-State Zoom audio/video conferencing service has been upgraded to work with the university’s Single Sign-On service, which allows K-Staters to use their eID/password to sign in.  Instructions for how to sign in can be found in the Accessing Zoom article.  You can access Zoom by using the Web, the Zoom app download, or a link on your K-State Connect page. Please use Single Sign-On from now on.

Attention: Previous K-State Zoom accounts will be deactivated on Feb. 16, 2015.

Phone repairs Nov. 7 will impact 10 buildings on campus

Today, Sept. 17, the latest release of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 8, will be made available. Last year’s iOS 7 update resulted in a 700 percent increase in worldwide network traffic. Network slowness and outages occurred throughout the world as millions of devices downloaded the one gigabyte update. At K-State, the network has more than enough bandwidth to handle the load.
