Jan. 6, 2014: Faculty, staff, and student employees move from Zimbra to Office 365

On Jan. 6, 2014, all faculty, staff, and student employees will be moved from Zimbra to Office 365 for email and calendaring. Email addresses will remain the same, and sign-in will be as usual at webmail.ksu.edu. This will complete the migration to Office 365 for the university.

CryptoLocker malware spreading through campus, destroying data

CryptoLocker is in a category of malware called ransomware. Once it’s installed, it encrypts most of the files on your computer as well as any files stored on connected network volumes. The only way to recover the encrypted files is to pay a ransom to the criminals or restore from backups. Several instances of this malware have been reported on the K-State campus and some of them have encrypted shared network volumes, affecting entire departments and forcing administrators to perform large data restores.  Continue reading “CryptoLocker malware spreading through campus, destroying data”

‘Introduction to Office 365’ sessions scheduled

Information Technology Services will begin offering “Introduction to Office 365” sessions beginning Oct. 31. These sessions will run until the end of November and will include an overview of the migration process and basic use of the new email and calendaring system. Office 365 update: More than 22,000 email accounts have been migrated

As of Oct. 7, 22,709 email accounts and about 3 terabytes of data have been migrated from Zimbra email to Office 365. The Office 365 implementation team moved student email accounts beginning Aug. 22, which continues through October. Get on the KSU Guest open wireless network, then link to wireless.ksu.edu and follow the instructions.

Q. K-State’s antivirus software won’t work on my computer. What do I do?

eID passwords: Has it been 180 days already?

Is it time to change your eID password? Most K-State students, faculty and staff need to change their passwords every 180 days. To check when your password will expire, sign in to Connect by clicking the “Sign in” button from the K-State homepage. In the eProfile section, the date to change your password appears. Office 365: Comparing the web-based client to the desktop client

As K-State transitions to Office 365, there have been questions about the differences in the web-based Outlook Web App versus the Outlook desktop client. The differences between the two are diminishing over time. If you do not share your calendar or email folders with anyone, the Outlook Web App will fit your needs. Office 365: Email will not migrate if file attachment is 25MB or larger
